A professional water test is essential to the health and comfort of your home but there are some uncertainties when it comes to exactly what happens after it’s completed. At Haferman Water Conditioning we offer water testing for Excelsior and the surrounding areas and are here to walk you through the whole process; from beginning to end and beyond.
For starters, if you are concerned about contaminants that may be present in your water, you should have your water tested. Leaving your water unchecked could lead to problems like gastrointestinal issues, hard or foul tasting water and a variety of other problems.
Hard fact: Hard water is present in 85% of homes in the US? Water testing can detect hard water as well.
When you decide that water testing is something you would like for your home, give us a call at Haferman Water Conditioning. One of our water testing experts will be out to your home right away. We will speak with you to determine what you’re looking for and set up an appointment for a water test.
Hard fact: Water testing will test hardness, iron, pH, and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS).
It takes just a few minutes with an EPA approved testing kit. The water treatment representative will bring along a small water softener that will make soft water for a visual comparison of the benefits of soft water. And will then make recommendations based upon the results of the different tests. Other tests are available as well, so it is up to you if you wish to pursue them.
Once the water testing is complete, you will have the option of having a water treatment system installed in your home or a water softener. Your water treatment professional will have several models of treatment in stock, and can generally have a system installed within a few days.
This day in age, our health, especially as it relates to what we put into our bodies, calls for special attention to the water that we drink. Municipal or well-based drinking water should be tested so that you get only the very best for you and your family.

Dive in Deep: Getting to the Bottom of What’s In Your Water
Do
you know what’s in your water? Eliminate the guesswork and find true peace of
mind by learning what’s in the water you and your family drink and doing
something about it. At Haferman Water Conditioning, we make it as easy as
possible for you to know for sure.
Whether
you rely on your city’s treated water or well water, it is a good idea to have
your water tested. And, this way you know whether or not you need to install a
water filtration system or water softener to improve the quality of your water water.
And, though there are at-home tests, it is important to have water testing done
by professionals. As experts in the industry, we have the right tools and knowledge to accurately test your
water for a variety of impurities and chemicals. The importance of water testing at
your Prior Lake
home should not be overlooked: routine water testing can help improve the taste
and quality of your water and keep you and your family safe. We’ve provided a
rundown of the reasons to choose water testing for your home.
Is it safe?
The
most basic reason for water testing is to make sure your home’s water is safe
for consumption. This is most important for households that use wells, but it
can also be helpful to find out the quality of your municipal sourced water. And,
if you live in an area with a great deal of agriculture, you will want to make
sure you get your water tested because nitrates and pesticides can easily get
into the soil and contaminate nearby wells.
Your water should
be tested if:
- You notice a change in your water quality, like in smell or taste.
- You notice scaling or spots on your glassware.
- There is a pregnant woman or an infant under the age of six months living in your home.
- Your drinking water comes out of the tap with a cloudy appearance.
- Your area experiences a large flood or storm that might have affected the water quality.
- You recently had some type of maintenance or repair work done on your well.
Hard
water problems?
Water testing can also help determine if your
home has a hard water problem. While hard water is not unsafe for you and your
loved ones to drink, it can decrease the life span of your water using
appliances and make it more difficult for you to keep your bathroom and kitchen
clean.
How often should
you have your water tested?
There
are no laws or regulations that dictate how often you should have water testing
performed. As mentioned, there are a few indications that you should have this
done, so it is up to you to determine when you should have your water tested
and how frequently you should have it done.

Hard Water vs. Soft Water
Homes
across the nation deal with the age old issue of having hard water or soft
water. Water piped into your home or welled up in your yard, tends to fall into
one of the aforementioned categories (there really is not such a thing as
perfect water residentially, most tends to be on either end of the spectrum).
If you are concerned about the quality of the water in your Minnetonka home, whether
hard water or soft water, call on the professionals here at Haferman Water.
We will test your water to gauge its state.
Water containing a higher concentration of dissolved
minerals such as calcium or magnesium is referred to as hard water. Water, in its
cleanest form, is lacking in minerals, therefore is naturally soft. The
minerals “attach” to the water molecules when the water itself passes through materials
containing calcium or magnesium (like limestone). Many people prefer hard water
due to its mineral content, even its taste.
Soft
water, being hard water’s opposite, has very little in it other than the H2O.
This type of water can occur naturally or with the help of a water purifying
system. A common issue with soft water is that it has saltiness to it and
therefore is not usually suited for drinking.
So,
with all of that said, what are the concerns with hard water over soft water,
or vice versa? Why would there be a need for a water softener? Here are some common
issues with hard water vs. soft water:
Hard Water Deposits
Scaly
deposits are found in the aftermath of hard water. These scales are left on and
in plumbing networks and appliances that use water. Scale that mounts inside of
pipes and appliances reduces their performance efficiency. Surfaces that come
in regular contact with hard water will likely need more intense and more frequent
cleanings.
Cleaning with Soft Water
The
ideal choice for cleaning is soft water. Scaling — as often displayed in
dishwasher detergent commercials — is contributed to by hard water. With soft
water, your dishes, all told, will be cleaner. Shower curtains will not have
scum, your clothing will not carry as much in the way of (invisible to the
naked eye) minerals, making them lighter and softer.
Softer
water ultimately serves to save you money, you can use less in the way of soap
and detergents in general. Your appliances will not expend as much effort as
softer water will allow for easier travel through its water-bearing channels. The
real bonus may just be that your energy bills will be lower with soft water.
How Can You Have The Best of Both
Worlds?
You
can soften your home’s hard water with a Kinetico water softener that reduces
scale buildup while retaining the taste so many enjoy in hard water. Through
the powers of kinetic energy — provided by the water itself — your hard water
will be softened.

All about Hard Water
If you suspect hard
water in your Chanhassen home, we have some helpful information for you. We
will tell you what hard water is, the signs you can look for to see if it’s in
your home, and ways to make hard water softer.
Hard water is the term used to describe water that is high
in mineral salts, calcium and magnesium. Water picks up these minerals when
passing through rock, sand and soil.
Hard water is not harmful to your health, but it can cause a
variety of problems such as scaling on your bathroom and kitchen fixtures,
white spots on glassware and dishes, and dry skin and hair. Hard water can also
decrease the life span of your water-using appliances.
Even though hard water is not a threat to your health or
well-being, it can make life a little more difficult. Hard water can alter the
taste of tea, coffee and homemade food. It can cause your soap and shampoo to
not lather properly. It also can make it difficult to keep your bathroom and
kitchen clean.
The good news is there are ways to soften hard water. One of
the most popular ways is with a water softener. These appliances need to be
installed by professionals like the ones at Haferman Water Conditioning, but
they generally do not need a lot of maintenance in order to keep functioning
properly.
There are a few other ways to soften hard water or to deal
with the problem. You can use white vinegar to clean dishes and glassware. You
can brew tea and coffee with bottled water, and you can buy shampoo and soap
that are specially formulated for hard water. However, these smaller costs can
add up over time, so the best bet is to look into getting a water softener. The
initial cost of a water softener is more than the cost of buying a case of
bottled water, but you will save money in the long term (and also help the
environment!) by having a water softener installed.
One common misconception some people have is thinking that
drinking hard water is a way to increase their calcium intake. However, hard
water is not the best way to get this type of mineral in your body. You should
consider eating calcium-rich foods or taking supplements instead.

Reasons to have Water Filters in Your Home
Water filters provide clean, pure drinking water right from
your home’s tap. We sell a variety of water
filters in Apple Valley and surrounding areas, and we believe there are
many reasons you should consider them for your home.
- Water filters make your drinking water smell, look and taste better. This is not just beneficial for drinking, but also helps with the water you use for baking, cleaning and bathing.
- Water filters remove dangerous toxins and contaminants from your water. This is beneficial for the health of the entire family, but is especially important for anyone in the home who deals with a delicate immune system or gastrointestinal issues.
- For homes with babies or small children, having filtered water will be easier on their developing immune systems. Filtered water can prevent illnesses that may result from impure drinking water.
- You can save money on bottled water since water filters make your home’s drinking water taste like it came from a bottle. You may even notice you spend less on juice or soda. When you have fresh water that tastes good, you and your family will be more inclined to drink it rather than sugary drinks.
- By making your drinking water more appealing, you and your loved ones may even lose weight since you’ll be drinking more water and fewer unhealthy drinks that are loaded with calories. This is also an added benefit for those who have trouble regulating their blood sugar.
- Filtered water also helps your plumbing. By removing contaminants from the water, water filters reduce deterioration of rubber seals in fixtures and appliances.
- Water filters are easy to maintain. A water purification company like Haferman Water Conditioning can recommend the best water filter for your wants and needs. We can even come to your home on a regular basis to ensure the water filters are still working properly.
These are just a few of the many benefits of having water
filters in your home. If you are interested in learning more about water
filters in Apple Valley or surrounding areas, please call Haferman Water
